Handcrafted wooden niddy noddies made from natural wood gathered on our land. Each one is unique in size and shape, with an average size of around 23cm long and 16cm wide. Perfect for Viking, Saxon, and medieval reenactors, as well as historical spinners and traditional fiber artists.
Our handcrafted wooden niddy noddy is made from natural wood gathered directly from the land. A tool for reenactors and historical craft enthusiasts. Each niddy noddy is individually shaped by hand, preserving the natural curves and features of the wood. Because they are made from real branches, every niddy noddy is unique in size and form, giving you a one-of-a-kind tool. While each piece varies, the average size is approximately 23cm in length and 16cm in width. For both demonstrations and regular spinning work. These niddy noddys are different to modern niddy noddys which have the ends offset in alternate directions. These are rustic versions inspired by the directions of the historical niddy noddys seen in manuscripts, where the two ends are the same direction rather than offset, they take a bit of practice to get used to how to wind the skein with both ends in the same direction, the skein is actually wound exactly the same way as on a modern niddy noddy.
The wooden niddy noddys found from medieval and viking times are turned or carved wood, but these are some simple tools for winding skeins in the same method if you spin yarn.
Modern fiber artists also value these niddy noddies for their organic feel and sustainable construction. Since the wood is sourced directly from the land, no two pieces are ever the same—each has its own unique shape, size, and personality.
